The Roaring Twenties (1920s)

2/6 Monday:
For the first 5 minutes we covered the history of the Super Bowl and how the game came to be a "national holiday"
The main part of class focused on discussing 1920s culture and why the mood & attitude in America was changing after WWI. |

2/7 Tuesday:
The first portion of class I talked about the history of Hollywood. You should ask a classmate to fill you in on some of the details.
The second half of class focused on the rise of organized crime in America during the 1920s. Al Capone's real life story was discussed because that is the topic of our first film Scareface. |

2/8 Wed --> 2/13 Fri:
We watched 1932's Scarface and answered the response questions (attached on the left). These questions will be collected and graded as a TEST.

2/14 Tues:
Today we read about the famous silent film comedian, Charlie Chaplin. Read the attached article and use it to answer the following:
Describe what the "Tramp" looks like, how he acts, and who in society is suppose to represent. |

2/14 Tues --> 2/17 Fri:
We watched Charlie Chaplin in "Modern Times" and discussed the the response questions (attached on the left). These questions will be graded as a TEST.
We will finish the film by Friday 2/17 |

Today we had an excellent discussion about whether NJ Gov. Chris Christie is doing the right thing by flying the US flag at half-staff for Whitney Houston's funeral. Read the attached article and make your own decision.
